Stephen Watts, Poet
Stephen was born in London in 1952, his father’s family came from Stoke-on-Trent, his mother’s from the Swiss-Italian Alps and he has cultural roots there and in Scotland. In the early 70’s he lived on North Uist working as a shepherd and since 1976 has been in Whitechapel in the East End of London. He has published three books of poetry—The Lava’s Curl (Grimaldi Press, 1990), Gramsci & Caruso (Periplum, 2003), The Blue Bag (Aark Arts, 2004) and edited several anthologies—Houses & Fish (a book of drawings with writing by 4 & 5 year olds, Parrot Press, 1991), Voices of Conscience (an international anthology of censored poets, Iron Press, 1995), Mother Tongues (a special issue of Modern Poetry in Translation, 2001), and Music While Drowning (an anthology of German Expressionist poems that accompanied an exhibition at the Tate Modern in London, Tate Publishing, 2003).

Stephen has read at international literary festivals, worked extensively as a writer in schools, hospitals and communities, and at present works independently as a poet, translator, editor and bibliographer.
Stephen is currently working on text concerning his grandfather’s migration from the Italian Alps early in the last century and is also writing a book of prose on Whitechapel. He has translated some contemporary Kurdish, Slovenian and Persian poets, including Ziba Karbassi, and the Yiddish poet Avrom Stencl (book forthcoming), and has compiled a bibliography of 20th Century poetry in English translation due to be published online. Some of his poetry has been translated into Czech, Persian, Italian, Spanish, and Finnish.

Jazzman John Clarke, Poet
After two books with 'tall-lighthouse', John's first full poetry collection: 'Ghost On The Road' (tall-lighthouse) appeared in 2006, followed by his latest collection: 'All The Way From Kathamandu'- Selected Jazz Poems (Nirala Publications, New Delhi,India, 2012).

John is also known and respected for his collaborative projects with a variety of musicians. The most recent poetry/music connection has been a William Burroughs radio play with Dee Sada and Billy Steiger and a project with the talented & wide-ranging music & vocal Collective: 'The Family of Cats' (www.familyofcats.co.uk).

Over the past decade or so, many poetry and music events across London have seen John act as an energetic host or co-host. He has featured at Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2009), Marsden Jazz Festival (October 2013) with 'Write Out Loud', the major UK Performance Poetry Organisation, as well as at festivals such as Standon Calling with Multi-Arts Organisation and Autumn Shift.

John has performed internationally in France, Holland and Italy and is associated with multi-arts organisations such as, Artsaveslives, Global Fusion Music Arts (GFMA) and PLATFORM-7.

Originally from Tennessee, Leslie is a London based artist working with a variety of media. Her background is in the performing arts as a classically trained dancer. She has a BA Honours degree in Sonic Art and hold a Masters Degree in Communication Art & Design from the Royal College of Art.

Millie & The Millionaires play an eclectic mix of retro 30s, 40s, 50s & 60s Swing, Jazz & Blues, ranging from 1930s’ swing numbers, such as Dinah Washington’s ‘Evil Gal’ and Fats Waller’s ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’, jazz classics, like 'St James’ Infirmary' and ‘Makin’ Whoopee’ and classic blues, such as Bonnie Raits' 'Love Me Like A Man' and Howling Wolf’s ‘Built For Comfort’, together with the odd oddball 60’s number like Nancy Sinatra’s ‘These Boots Were Made for Walkin’. The band is fronted by the wonderful Miss Millie Veasey on vocals, with support from Dave Piggott on guitar, Alan Elliott on sax, Pete Feldon on bass and Pete Abernethy on drums. This band are not to be missed if you are a lover of swinging, toe- tapping, jumping blues swing, jazz & blues at its best.
